“Here is your baby’s heartbeat. Very strong, looks great.” little pause. “And here is the second heartbeat, also very strong.” Second heartbeat? That is all I remembered from our doctor’s visit when we found out we were having twins. Pretty sure I blacked out after that. Two heartbeats. Two little humans growing inside me. But I only signed up for one baby. Now I have to go through a very high risk pregnancy and buy two of everything? What about my dreamy pregnancy that I always envisioned? Ya that is out the window.
Those were my original thoughts after I found out we were expecting identical twins. I have always been a planner and had come up with what I thought my life would look like. Twins were definitely never considered. That week was a very emotional week. My life all of a sudden looked so much different to me. I actually couldn’t picture it. I was afraid, confused and slightly panicked. But little did I know, having twins would be the best things to happen to me. Having TWO little faces smile up at me every morning would change my world like nothing else had before. TWO babies laughing, reaching for my face and holding on to me would now be my new normal, and that new normal is better than anything I had envisioned before.
I want to tell you guys how having twins has actually, believe it or not, slowed me down. It’s made me appreciate things so much more and actually enjoy living in the moment. Now let me be clear and say that having two babies, the same age, can be pretty intense at times. The first four months were extremely hard. The girls were so fussy and all I truly remember around that time was lots and lots of crying. Did I mention there was a lot of crying? Once four months hit, the sun came out and life got a whole lot easier. Granted, each month comes with new challenges, but for the most part, every day gets so much easier. I decided I wanted to write down my thoughts on this topic one day while I was sitting outside with the girls. They were in their bouncers, playing with toys and I was sitting in a chair next to them enjoying a glass of rose’. The wind was blowing and the sun was shinning on my back. (Oh, and my phone was inside.) It was in that moment that I felt so happy and so content. I was disconnected to the ‘media’ world (which is hard to do considering it’s my job), but so connected to this sweet moment with my girls. I was thinking that I never in a million years would have sat outside and just BE, pre-kids. I would feel like I was wasting my time and could be doing something else that was more productive. It didn’t occur to me that taking a little time to do not much of anything was actually really needed. When you are on your phone all day long, checking emails constantly and always creating to-do lists, you get caught up in this never-ending cycle of go-go-go. I mean, yes it’s important to get work done, but now I’m realizing that it doesn’t need to be 24/7. There is enough time in the day to take some moments to just be. Then, when it is time to get things done I find myself being so much more productive than before. Don’t get me wrong, when they are awake I still manage to get stuff done. Now that they are older and can entertain themselves more, I can do some cleaning and other chores. But I leave the big stuff for when they nap.
These girls have taught me how to enjoy the simple things of day-to-day life. Drinking coffee has a whole new meaning to it. Drinking hot coffee (keyword: hot) is something I never though about before! But now, I savor each and every sip. Waking up to a clean house is on another level. Walking into a spotless kitchen is pretty spectacular. Getting the motivation to clean at night once they are asleep can be hard to do. But man is it worth it.
Another thing that has improved with babies is my time management. When they nap, I am so much more efficient and amazed at all I’m able to do in an hour and half. I have learned to multi-task like a boss. If I’m walking down the hall with one baby I’ll throw in a load of clothes in the wash. When I take one baby into her room to change her diaper, I’ll bring in their clean clothes. While a bottle is warming up I’ll load the dishwasher. Sure, I used to do all these things before, but now I feel like a super hero once I get it all done.
Life with twins is constant. If one is calm, the other is needy. If I hold one, the other begs for my attention. So I’m in no way saying that having twins is a piece of cake. But what I am trying to say, is that having twins has taught me how to devote un-distracted time to things. When I am with the girls, I am fully with them. It’s so refreshing to see things through their eyes. They are taking in each and every thing around them for the first time. Seeing them develop and grow everyday is a pretty amazing thing. So if you have little ones enjoy those moments. Take a few minutes to breathe and not think of your never-ending list of things to do. (Does that list never end??) And while our house seems to always be a mess even though I’m cleaning all day long, I know I’ll look back on these days and miss them so much. June and Violet, you are two amazing little girls and I thank you for showing me how to enjoy the simple moments in life.
Hey guys! Today I wanted to share with you some more info on our Evenflo Minno Twin Stroller. We have had it for about a month now and it’s absolutely perfect for summertime! If you are looking for a double stroller that is lightweight and very convenient than this post is for you!
Something Andrew and I love to do, is take the girls to different nurseries. The girls love to be outside, so it’s a great way to enjoy the morning and keep them entertained. They love looking at all the plants and Andrew and I enjoy it as well! When it’s a hot day, we usually take them out in the morning while it is still fairly cool. We get them fed and dressed then head out! Now that they are a little older and can keep their heads up, we’ve been using this stroller when we go on walks. Before we had been putting them in their carseats every time, but strapping them in this is so much easier! It opens up in just a few seconds, and even Andrew was impressed at it’s simplicity.
I’m planning on taking it to Nashville in a few weeks since it’s easy to use and folds up really compact. And then we are renting carseats with our rental car. The stroller has overhead shades that are easy to pull down and an underneath compartment where you can store some things. Also it comes with a cup holder you can use on the side. Side by side strollers can be pretty big, but this one is narrow enough to fit through most doorways. It’s also nice that the girls have a good view of everything!
Summertime to me is enjoying everything outside. So every chance we get (when it’s not 100 degrees outside!) we go on walks, swim in the pool or just hang out on the grass. When the girls start to get fussy, taking them outside is our magic trick. It works every single time!
Love my family of four!
June was so relaxed the whole morning, just completely content sucking her thumb!
I hope you all are having a wonderful summer so far. Life is much more exciting with these two babes in tow! Just going on a walk is much more exciting! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, I hope you have a great day!
Hey guys! Today I wanted to talk skin! I am a huge skincare lover. I am always on the hunt for the absolute best products. I only share things I have been using when my skin is at it’s best, and lucky for me that time is now! Korres is a brand I’ve been using for a long time, so when they launched a new eye serum and reformulated a few products from their Black Pine line, I knew I had to try them! I also was wanting to find some new products to help with my fine lines and dark circles. During my pregnancy my skin was practically perfect. I never had any breakouts and the weight I gained filled in all my fine lines. Now, almost 5 months postpartum, my lines have come back as I drop the weight. And as far as my eyes go, well let’s just say twins and sleep don’t go hand in hand! (On the bright side, we are sleep training and getting so much more sleep it is amazing! Another blog post on that subject coming soon!) So with a lack of sleep comes dark under eyes. I really never had any issues with darkness before, but now, that is my main area of concern. So let me walk you through these products and let you know why they have changed my skin.
Let’s start with eyes. In the photo above the product on the left is the new Black Pine Super Eye Serum. It will lift your entire eye area, leaving you with youthful, bright and fatigue-free eyes. I have noticed a big improvement in the brightness of my under eyes. They are much less dark and smoother than before. Some days I don’t even feel the need to wear concealer (and that is a BIG deal). The serum stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, while diminishing dark circles and reducing the appearance of fine lines. Things we are always looking for in an eye product! It also contains the Defeye Gravity Complex, which helps with sagging eyelids, and Elastilift-3D, which helps to re-contour your face. Hello chiseled features! The 3D Black Pine Eye Cream will also help promote skin elasticity and improve the texture of your under eye area. I like to add the eye cream on top of the serum for a little more moisture overnight.
The next two products I’ve been really enjoying are the Firming, Lifting & Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream and the Active Firming Sleeping Oil. The Sleeping Oil has also been reformulated with more advanced ingredients! Sometimes I’ll use both together if my skin feels extra dry or other times I’ll just use the Sleeping Oil by itself. The oil is ultra-concentrated and feels silky on the skin. It’s extremely lightweight, so if you aren’t usually a fan of oils I’d suggest you try this one because it really sinks into your skin. It helps to recontour, firm and nourish the skin along with optimizing the volume of your skin, making your face look more lifted. I look forward to using this product before bed because of how luxurious it feels. Such a treat! The night cream contains black pine extracts, which are the first natural polypeptides. This helps with collagen and elastic production, firming the skin and protecting your skin from free radicals. If my skin feels extra dry I will apply the night cream on top of the sleeping oil and always wake up with amazing skin.
So if you are in the market for some new firming and lifting skincare products I highly recommend these. I try so many products so for a line to stand out really means something. My skin has looked so much better since incorporating these into my routine and I am highly critical of my own skin! I’d love to know if you already use some of these and how they work for you! Thanks for stopping by!
Hey guys! Today I wanted to talk about introducing foods to babies. My twins are now 4 months old and I just started thinking about my plan for feeding them. It’s crazy to think that time is almost here! As of now I am still breastfeeding and giving them formula before bed and sometimes one other time during the day. I also am pumping about 2-3 times a day to up my supply and get some milk for them to have on hand if they won’t nurse. For this post I have partnered up with Stonyfield Organic to show you some more options when it comes to healthy baby food. Their YoBaby line, which is the #1 pediatrician recommended yogurt for ages 6 months-2 years, recently added a new strain of probiotics, BB-12. Probiotics are super beneficial for your gut. And your gut health is the foundation for overall good health.
It’s recommended that you wait to feed solids to your baby until they are 4-6 months old. You also want them to be able to sit upright and hold their head up. Our girls have good head control but still can’t sit up so I’m going to wait until they can. I am starting to notice they get easily distracted when nursing these days. If I start to talk to someone, they will turn their head toward me and start to smile and coo. It’s pretty cute, but can sometimes be frustrating when I want them to eat!
It is a bit overwhelming figuring out what to feed your babies once they are done breastfeeding yet to young for cow’s milk. But dairy is packed with nutrients like calcium and vitamin D which are both super nutritious for growing babies. The nice thing is, even if your babies are still breastfeeding, they can have yogurt at 6 months. These yogurts are a great option and made with organic whole milk.
So what other foods am I going to introduce to our girls first? Egg yolks are at the top of my list. They are packed with beneficial fatty acids and provide cholesterol needed for the optimal development of the nervous system. I’d love to know your thoughts on baby cereal. I’ve heard to pour some breast milk into it to help your baby get used to it. I’m just wondering if it has many nutritional benefits. I’d also like to introduce avocado around six months. They are packed with essential fats, vitamins and minerals. To prepare, I’m going to mush it up and add breast milk to thin it out. The other two things I’d like to introduce early on are bananas and sweet potatoes (both packed with vitamin A, C and folate).
There are so many things to consider when being a mom to two littles, but I just try to trust my instincts and do my best! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day and thanks so much for stopping by my blog!
I’m so excited to share with you our nursery for our twin girls! They were born December 16th at 1:08 and 1:09 and life has definitely changed around here! I had so much fun decorating this room for them. It was nice to be able to go slightly more feminine and girly than the rest of our house. I added touches of rose gold and floral patterns to give it a vintage vibe, and added in some wood elements to keep it balanced. The other thing I wanted to do was decorate it so that they can grow into the space. I didn’t want to have too much of a ‘theme’ because I knew both the girls and myself would get tired of it quick. Instead, I opted for a look that was more classic and simple. A lot of the furniture will work as the girls grow up so we don’t have to keep buying new things all the time. I hope you all enjoy the room as much as I do! And thank you all so much for the kind words on my social media accounts wishing my family well. It means so much to me!
Hey guys! I hope you are all having a great week so far! I just got back from my 29 week appointment (these photos were a few weeks ago so I’m bigger now!) and everything went great. The babies are 3 pounds 5 ounces and 3 pounds 6 ounces which is so amazing to be that close. I even got to see their faces in 3D and it blew my mind. Everything is becoming a little more real now. Not that it wasn’t real before, but now that they will make their arrival in less than two months, I’m feeling the pressure! We pretty much have their nursery complete. I just need to hang stuff up on the walls and get a few things for finishing touches. I’ll have a post on the nursery after they are born because we are waiting to say their names until they are born. We have signs above their cribs with their names so I kinda have to wait to post!
As far as ‘gear’ goes, we have everything we need, I think! We have a stroller, car seats, rockers, clothes, diapers and a whole lot more. Our house is already packed with baby stuff. It’s going to be insane once they are born. Lots of pink too! I’m trying to organize everything a little better so it gives us a little wiggle room. My body is also feeling the pregnancy a lot more now. My uterus is now the size of a normal 40 week pregnancy, but I still have about 7 weeks to go. Wow typing out 7 weeks looks like practically nothing! Ah! Andrew and I are just so ready to meet these little girls. I feel like I’ve been pregnant forever and I am ready to see their faces in real life! We have a birthing class tonight at the hospital so that should be interesting! I am going to leave my last update video below for you to watch if you are interested. I hope you guys have a great weekend!
Finally I am here to share my baby shower photos with you all! It was such a beautiful (and hot) day with so much love! Our shower was held in Fallbrook, CA at Myrtle Creek Nursery. There was a tented area where we set everything up. But I’d recommend coming by this nursery for lunch sometime because it is such an adorable spot. You order lunch and it’s put in a picnic basket for you to take anywhere on the nursery to enjoy. We had around 45 people attend the shower from friends to family. The main thing I wanted was a romantic and rustic vibe, and it truly was just that. My mom found the pink table runners on amazon, and her and a friend made the plant party favors. The tags were from Etsy. Our plates, flatware and glassware were from Casa de Perrin and completely made the tables! My dad cut a ton of eucalyptus from their backyard and we used that on top of the runners along with homemade flower arrangements in mason jars.
My dress is from Asos maternity and I absolutely loved it. I ordered a size up (because I’m gaining a whole lot of weight with these twins). But I think I’ll be able to where it post babies too. And my shoes are from Sole Society, which I where with pretty much everything. Where heals was a big deal for me. They came off right when the shower was over, don’t get me wrong! My feet were aching bad! Lately my whole body has been super achy and I am ready for the babies to come out already!
I’ll have a video on some of the things I got at the shower, because I know a lot of you want to see! But for now here is a short video of the shower. I hope you all enjoy!
So many of you know, if you follow me on instagram or youtube, that Andrew and I are expecting twins this December. I wanted to share with you all the details from our Gender Reveal Party that we had about a month ago. We had such a great time celebrating with our friends and family. If you are expecting a baby I would definitely recommend having a party like this because it gets everyone excited.
I bought these large chalkboards from Hobby Lobby and painted the frame white. Then I used chalk board markers to write everything. It was fun to see what everyone predicted our twins to be. *We know that the twins are identical which is why they can only be boy/boy or girl/girl.
For our drink set-up we had a mimosa bar, water, pink lemonade (with blueberries to make it pink and blue) along with iced tea. For the mimosa bar we used mango, pomegranate and orange juice.
These pitchers were my friends but I am pretty sure she got them from Costco.
I really wanted to have a chalk board with some wives tales that predicted what the gender would be. I just googled some popular ones and then circled which ever applied to me. (Not sure if these apply to twins!) For food we had fruit, veggies, artichoke dip, a cheese platter, meatballs and turkey wraps.
I had this cake made for me at a local bakery and I love how it turned out. The cake topper is from etsy along with the cupcake toppers. After we all mingled and ate, it was time for the reveal!! (A friend of mine put the boxes together for us. I gave her the results after a doctor’s appointment, and she was the only one who knew!)
I was so shocked. I really thought we’d have boys. But clearly what do I know?
Here is a video of the day, and you can see us opening the boxes!
I’m excited to share with you all that I am pregnant! My husband and I were so happy when we got a positive pregnancy test! The crazy thing is, at our first doctor’s appointment we found out there isn’t just one baby growing inside of me, but TWO! Now I have a million questions and concerns going through my head at all times of the day. So I wanted to share how I found out I was pregnant and also some of my symptoms. (They have changed drastically!)
Currently I am 9 weeks and 2 days, so I’m not out of my first trimester but it was getting so hard not to say anything. I know it’s a little risky spreading the news a little early but I also was feeling sheltered and on my own. The day I posted on Instagram, I got so many well wishes and great advice from you guys. I think it made me feel better knowing I’m not alone in this and having the support felt amazing.
I ended up taking two pregnancy tests on a Monday, and I wasn’t supposed to start my period until that Thursday. But I had been feeling a little different for a few days. I was very crampy and moody. I usually don’t get cramps until the day before or day off my period, so I knew it was a little odd. I ended up taking my first test (a cheap one from the dollar store) late in the day around 2:30, so I knew the chances of it being positive were low. Yet, two lines filled in right away. I honestly couldn’t believe it. So then, I used one of the more expensive digital tests to make sure. Three minutes later there was a big YES on the screen!
Symptoms weeks 1-4:
-very moody, emotional and easily irritated
-tired around 4
-starving all the time
Symptoms weeks 5-8:
-nauseous throughout the day, comes in waves (NO FUN)
-no food sounds good, but always hungry
-very tired most of day, bed around 9:00
I’m excited to share this journey with you guys and also learn from your experiences! Praying for a safe pregnancy and two healthy babies!
